What is a Transition Initiative?

It's a place where there's a community-led process that helps that town/village/city/neighbourhood become stronger and happier.

It's happening in well over a thousand highly diverse communities across the world - from towns in Australia to neighbourhoods in Portugal, from cities in Brazil to rural communities in Slovenia, from urban locations in Britain to islands off the coast of Canada. Many of these initiatives are registered on the Transition Network website.

These communities have started up projects in areas of food, transport, energy, education, housing, waste, arts etc. as small-scale local responses to the global challenges of climate change, economic hardship and shrinking supplies of cheap energy. Together, these small-scale responses make up something much bigger, and help show the way forward for governments, business and the rest of us.

Really, it's the opposite of us sitting in our armchairs complaining about what's wrong, and instead, it's about getting up and doing something constructive about it alongside our neighbours and fellow townsfolk. And people tell us that as a result of being involved in their local "transition initiative", they're happier, their community feels more robust and they have made a lot of new friends.

Great that you found this network, H. Planet. I've met the top of this network in Totnes, in 2007, just after the start. Rob Hopkins is one of them, mainly spokesman and frequent blogger on the TTN website. When I asked him about his take on Agenda 21 he simply put it aside as BS. The truth is different on every level, just like the lies, I guess. If I may add another initiativve, for those in search of this sort of info, here's a link to an Intentional Communities database

You are correct! i found myself sometimes struggling with this community because of their lack of understanding about the true natural cause of our problems, that`s a bit of new age movement mentality, it`s like they want to do good wich i feel for them, but they create new solutions instead of eliminating the roots of whats really damageing things in the fisrt place. thank you for sharing IC website i will definitely check it out..... Btw i`m going to move to Exeter wich i found a job there, so if you ever go to Exeter let me know! Namaste

Yes, I think you're right in the way you look at TTN. It's the situation we live in now, with truths for many people held on different levels. Richard Hoagland, the researcher of the Face on the Moon and more, has a great way of saying it "The lie is different on many levels" And I think it's the same thing with truth. To me, it's a constant vigilance to reckon with that fact in my world, for I tend to be furiously impatient with people around me, meeting the dragon of judgment and condemnation within. I feel my ancestors programming strongly, these days. It's all in my dna and maybe you're familiar with your body cells firing them. That's what I mean, I can observe all this from a point of objectivity and discern where I've agreed to be entangled in it, due to the pattern of my own life stories. By the way, you haven't answered my question about if you work with horses. Are you just happy to be with horses and nothing more?
